Over the last year I’ve shared tasting notes from our trip to Italy, my finds at the BevMo nickel sale, the bargains at Trader Joe’s, my love for Mi Sueno, my admiration for Tofanelli Vineyard, my lame attempts at making our own wine, and even a tasting in Thailand! There were other tales as well, and throughout it all it has been fun to hear how others have reacted to my wine recommendations.

But now I want to hear from you!

Tell me about your favorite wines.  Which wine made you go “wow”?  What wine do you want me to try?  What wine story can you share?  What winery was the most fun to visit? I want to hear because I’d love to learn about new wines and have a good reason to taste something special.

Maybe it wasn’t the wine that was special, but it’s something you’ll remember forever because of the occasion: your wedding, anniversary, or birthday.  Maybe you met a famous winemaker, or stumbled onto a gorgeous winery, or even found a great salesman who helped you find a great bargain.  Whatever your story, please share it!

See the little speech balloon with a number in it? That’s what you click to comment.  I look forward to hearing from you!

  1. Jonathan says:

We splurged on Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon for our 10th anniversary. It has spoiled me forever!

  2. Ryan says:

I’m a fan of wine but no almost nothing about it. My favorite right now is Coppola Merlot. I once attended a 50th wedding anniversary party at Coppola’s winery in Napa for a long-time friend of us. Very cool experience and I think the merlot is pretty good.

  3. Mark says:

My brother-in-law bought us a bottle of wine as a wedding present. It was a 1954 vintage, already 24 years old when he gave it to us. We knew nothing about wines, but realized it should be saved for some special time. We saved it (in no special location) for another 10 or 15 years. As you might guess, when we opened it…it was total vinegar!

  4. Jedd says:

Here are some good ones: Pliny the Elder, Delirium Tremens, Chimay, Trappist Westvleteren, Duvel….

  5. Brian says:

Wente Charles Wetmore Cabernet. Not a “big” cab, but flavorful, drinkable, balanced, affordable — any occasion, any day. It’s the one wine that you’ll always find on the ready at my house.

  6. Kevin Carey says:

Favorite higher end (i.e. not very often): Tofanelli and Mi Sueno

Favorite bottom shelf: Number 8 Zin

Favorite memory wine: Brunello di Montalcino, which we had often on our honeymoon to Italy

  7. Mava Wolford says:

It’s hard for me to name a favorite wine, but I do have a favorite wine experience. When we lived in Pleasanton, our friend Bill Cosby’s (not the famous one) brother was the winemaster at Beringer. We had a whole day planned with my sister and brother-in-law in the wine country. Bill was our tour guide. We began with a tour of the Jack London Museum in Sonoma. We then toured the Sebastiani winery. From there, we went to Beringer. Bill called his brother who brought his wife with them. We had a private tasting in the dining room. The eight of us consumed six bottles of wine during the ‘tasting.’ We then went across the road to taste some of their experimental wines, then home with them for a while. The eight of us went out to dinner together. When asked for a recommendation for a good red wine, the winemaster for Beringer said, “Gallo Hearty Burgundy.” He wasn’t kidding. That’s what we had with our dinner! Needless to say, we never made it to two other wineries on our agenda!

  8. Shawn Wilkerson says:

I have 2 …One’s a local Washington wine from the man who literally started the Central Washington wine industry….La Tuscana winery’s Double Cab…A perfect blend of Cab Sauv and Cab Franc.
The other is from California’s fun-to-visit castle winery, Castell Di Amarossa’s Il Barone…an excellant Cab…

  9. Tina says:

My new favorite is from Paso Robles Sextant’s winery. It’s their 2007 Zinfandel. It’s a great deal at Costco in Danville (the only Costco that carries it in the area). The last time I was there I bought all that was left of the ’07. They now carry the ’08, but have not tried that yet.

  10. Susan Thomas says:

I really love the Barbera and Reisling from Charles B Mitchell. They are located in the Fairplay area. Tons of wineries have popped up within the last 10 years.

  11. Jim Mannoia says:

Sorry to say I am not a connoiseur…but after a year with Jane, and at least one tasting tour in San Luis….I like a Fess Parker Reisling. (Not classy but the one I like.)

  12. Nick says:

Favorite value wine right now is Centerline Highflyer Blend. Part of the Somerston Label.

    Favorite Biodynamic is Benzinger Tribute!

Wine I would love to hear about is Quintessa, expensive but looks really interesting.

  13. Jolene says:

The best bottle I’ve ever had. 2005 Napa Silver Oak Cabernet. Had it on our 5 year wedding anniversary at The Magic Castle in Hollywood. (It was a gift that we had saved for several years.) Bouquet was unreal. It was the most lovely wine I’d had to that point, and since. Ah, memories.

  14. Joeshico says:

I’ve had a few that made me go “wow,” but the one wine I really remember as best is the “Tignanello.” A super Tuscan from Antinori.

  15. Many a fine wines out there… lately I’ve enjoyed Ken Volk Algianico shockingly AMAZING – try with rack of lamb! Love Linne Calodo (Paso), Booker, L’Aventure… Caymus Cab is a fav, Alban Reva, Fiddlehead 728…
