Election Day Thoughts

Today is election day in the United States, so I’m posting this special edition of Junkyard Wisdom™. See what I did there? It’s a “special edition” like it’s a news show we’re going to be bombarded with for the next few days! Ha!

Anyway, I read something well worth sharing.

Axios has become my go-to news source. I get the morning and evening emails to keep me up to date. On Sunday they posted something that should make all of us pause, reflect, and prepare. I’m going to re-post it here because I think it’s important.

Books Worth Reading

The first half of 2020 has come and gone, and it was certainly a half-year to remember. Common themes of the first half include Covid-19, the economy, Black Lives Matter, and the US Election.

My reading reflected some of these themes. Okay, so I didn’t read scientific journals about the Coronavirus. I wouldn’t have understood them if I had. Still, I read a lot of timely books. Overall my reading pace slowed to 44 books in the first six months, probably because of not commuting (thus fewer audiobooks).

Voting

Voting is a privilege we should never take for granted even when we have to make tough choices. Nobody is the perfect candidate, even in the best of years. We have to make tough decisions about flawed leaders, which may never be more obvious than this election season.

As J.R. Daniel Kirk says, “There is no vote cast that does not require some measure of forgiveness.”

So vote. And then join me in seeking forgiveness as we pray for our nation.
