Junkyard Road Trip

Well, not exactly a road trip, we fly not drive. But … anyone interested in Belize? I’ve just returned from a great trip with friends, and I’m already planning another trip for January. We will be full for this trip (no more than 15 people) so let me know soon if you are interested. It’s a blend of Junkyard reality, PathLight heart, and touristy fun.

The most recent trip was really short: we spent less than 72 hours in Belize. But it was packed. Here’s a list of the things we did:

Met with PathLight students and heard their stories.…

Generous Teaching

I’ve got an exciting announcement buried at the end of this article. So please bear with me for a few paragraphs.

Teachers are in the news these days as the nation moves toward reopening classrooms. It got me thinking about the selflessness of people who dedicate themselves to education. Teaching, and serving the educational system in general, is a way to be generous to our future.

Conversations ranged from forward looking ideas about expansion to basic housekeeping topics like the staff …

Building Our PathLight Team

For the last nine months PathLight has been searching for a new Belize Program Director. The search was international in scope and included dozens of good candidates. The process took longer than we anticipated, but that’s common when it is so important to find the right person.

The great news is that an incredible young leader has filled the position. Bryant Kong is our new Belize Program Director. He and his wife Hyojung, along with their young son, will be moving to Belize in late June.

Bryant brings great passion and energy to this position. Born and raised in San …

Teacher Training Conference

One of the most powerful PathLight programs is the annual Teacher Training Conference. Belizean teachers are hungry for tools to advance their skills, and it’s great to see that 90 of them showed up for the conference this year. Adrienne Parcher directs this program and has written this months update letter with information and insights about the TTC. I highly recommend checking it out here: Teacher Training Conference
