A book you should read, part II

This post was written years ago, but it’s worth reposting. It’s about a book almost everybody I know should read. A friend mentioned the book recently, so it seemed timely to repost my thoughts.

Henri Nouwen was brilliant, of course. He gave a talk on fundraising and somebody had the good sense to publish it as A Spirituality of Fundraising.

And I think everybody should read it. Here’s why.

In his book To Sell is Human, Daniel Pink said that we are all in sales now.

No Man is an Island

My friend Kurt suggested the Thomas Merton book No Man Is an Island when I asked about books on hope. At first I resisted because it didn’t strike me as being focused on the Journey of Hope theme. I read the book years ago and it just didn’t seem like a good fit. But Kurt knows his stuff and is better read than I am, so it made the list.

It was great to read it again. The book is filled with themes of hope. Even in the prologue it begins with, “No matter how ruined man and his world …
