24-7 Prayer

Book Reviews,

Dirty Glory

After 15-years of seeing God work in amazing ways, Pete Greig has written Dirty Glory: Go Where Your Best Prayers Take You to share those stories. It’s the story of prayer and Pete’s amazing ride as the “accidental” founder of 24-7 Prayer.

Most of all, it’s the story of God’s engagement in our world. This is where Pete shines as an author (and as a person). He can tell amazing stories, but you never sense it’s about self-promotion the way other preacher/teacher types sometimes come across. For Pete, it’s genuinely about what God is doing in the world.

For this …

Book Reviews,

Gatecrashing

Rarely do I review a book the author suggests when the suggestion comes from a Twitter direct message. But when Brian Heasley offered to send me a copy of GateCrashing, I was eager to dive into the book.

I’ve never met Brian but know many who have. They all tell me about his amazing journey in life, his huge heart, and how God is working through him in places like Ibiza, Spain.

You see, Brian was the director of 24-7 Prayer in Ibiza, which some call the party capital of the world. It’s certainly the party capital for young …

God Sneezed, It Went Viral

My friend Pete Greig is the visionary leader of 24-7 Prayer. He visited this past summer and Mark Parcher and I talked with Pete about the importance of global prayer. The three videos below are (slightly) edited versions of our conversation. It was filmed in our back yard, basically done in one take, and isn’t meant to be a fancy video presentation. It’s just the sharing of stories of how God can sneeze and, beyond our wild expectations, something goes viral. Hope you enjoy them.

As a follow-up, D’Aun and I had dinner with Pete and his wife Sammy …

Kids and Prayer

Next month I will be visiting London for a few days and connecting with friends at 24-7 Prayer. One of the programs that originated from 24-7 is Prayer Spaces in Schools. I posted their teaser video earlier but thought the full version is also worth posting (it’s below).

I am excited about the possibilities of these prayer spaces in schools. A child seems to have an intuitive understanding of prayer that adults lose. Perhaps this is because they are more vulnerable, more willing to rely on others, and more willing to accept the mystery of God. Whatever the …

Junkyard Management,

Primal Thankfulness

Late one night in a 24-7 Prayer Room in Guildford, England, my friend Pete Greig experienced a reawakening of hope. He wrote about the experience and it was so beautiful that I wanted to share it with you here. It might not seem like it, but Pete’s insight really describes a Junkyard Wisdom experience … primal, optimistic, realistic, and simple all at once. This is what he wrote:

I’m standing at night in this subterranean place of prayer, and perhaps it’s the coffee, or the music, or the Spirit, but the darkness doesn’t seem too strong. I’m praying for miracles …

Family,

Prayer in Oxford

My previous post about Aldingbourne mentioned that Pete Greig picked us up at the airport.  Pete is the accidental founder of 24-7 Prayer.  I love the idea of being an accidental founder … it’s much more realistic than most founders are willing to admit!

Anyway, Pete met us at the airport and spent a couple of days with us as we explored Southern England.  But he also took us to Oxford and introduced us to some of his 24-7 Prayer friends.  They were having a gathering of UK leaders and it seemed the perfect way for us to hear …
