Why The SOLD Project? Because they focus on prevention, and the impact of prevention is huge. I admire folks who rescue trafficking victims, and I admire groups that provide after care services for victims. But prevention is so much more powerful because it stops the problem at the source. It’s cheaper, healthier, and faster.

I’ve been in Thailand and seen the impact …

The SOLD Project,

Make an Impact on Trafficking

Yesterday I was reading the morning news and my eye caught the headline “Sex Trafficking: Lifelong Struggle of Exploited Children” on BBC.com. There was an accompanying article about trafficking of children becoming an “epidemic” across the USA, which is distressing. And the truth is the trafficking issue is much, much worse in places like Thailand. Even my own beloved Belize was just dropped to Tier 3 of the State Department list because of their trafficking problem.

It’s easy to read these depressing articles and feel powerless. But the truth is we can do something to have an impact on trafficking. …

The SOLD Project,

Invest in Prevention

My daughter’s organization, The SOLD Project, is expanding! Please watch the video below and help them do even more in their prevention efforts. Human trafficking and child exploitation are evil institutions, and she needs your help. The best way is by giving through this Global Giving page.

D’Aun and I are planning a visit to Northern Thailand in early January. Should be a great trip and I’m looking forward to seeing all the improvements in the facilities and the programs. Proud of my daughter!

Tony Campolo is in the House

Tony Campolo has been a friend for decades. He’s constantly on the move so we do not connect in person often enough, but I still consider him one of the people who has most influenced my life. He is staying with us a couple of days to help The SOLD Project raise awareness about the prevention of child exploitation.

One of the best things about Tony — other than his deep spirituality, his quick mind, his irreverence blended with respect, and his unbridled energy — is his incredible sense of humor. And some of the funniest lines are about our …

How Did Jesus Handle Change?

I first met Ken Wytsma in Northern Thailand as we traveled with The SOLD Project. We quickly became friends and he has recently agreed to join the SOLD Board of Directors. Ken is the founder of The Justice Conference, the President of Kilns College, and is the lead pastor of the church he planted in Antioch, Oregon. And that’s just for starters. Like me, he doesn’t know how to do just one thing at a time. That’s probably why we quickly became friends.

The SOLD Project,

Sayings

A week ago I landed at SFO and finished my trip through Southeast Asia. As you’d guess it’s been a hectic week of catching up. And of scratching flea bites.

But one week gives enough distance from the trip to focus on the important things I learned. It’s not exactly a week of reflection, but the passage of time offers a chance to realize which memories really matter. Those memories shape my heart and will influence my future.

Not surprisingly, I remember the people. And what I remember most are the things they said. Sometimes I don’t remember the exact …

The SOLD Project,

Finally Home!

Got home this morning and thought I’d repost this short conclusion. It was in my last post about Chiang Rai but it was buried at the bottom. It deserves more attention.

This journey has been about contrasts. From the strange backwater country of Myanmar to the bustling global center of Bangkok. From the Klong Toey Slum to Raffles Hotel. From the amazing city of Singapore to the remote rural city of Chiang Rai. And even now as I sit in a cheap little hotel near the Bangkok airport after being booted out of an overbooked posh hotel, I am …
