PathLight Diversity Weekend

Two years ago I convinced my friend Brenda Salter McNeil that she should visit Belize with me and see the great things happening through the PathLight ministry. Even though she’s a city girl, she agreed to go. Even more surprising, she agreed to come back and work with the students on racial identity issues!

So this past weekend we hosted Brenda and her colleague Rosanne at the PathLight conference center in Belize. About fifty students, from first year high school students to college students, came to learn about how much God values them. Brenda and Rosanne did a wonderful job …

Pigeon Monday

Today is Pigeon Monday. Or at least that’s what I call it. Hopefully I’ll start a new trend. It would seem that Jesus had something against pigeons. That’s evident from the story of Him tearing up the Temple grounds.

On the Monday before Passover, Jesus entered the Temple grounds and unleashed some fury. It was always one of my favorite Bible stories when I was a kid. The vision of the Messiah overturning tables, driving people out, blocking people from bringing anything through the Temple … it was all so exciting compared to the meek and mild stuff I was …

Who Wants To Go To Belize?

PathLight’s second class of seniors will be graduating from high school on May 29, 2012 and a great trip to Belize is planned to celebrate this event. This trip is always very popular and recently a couple of slots have opened up. This is an excellent chance to learn more about Belize, to see what PathLight is doing and to encourage our new graduates. D’Aun and I will be hosting this trip, along with directors Mark and Adrienne Parcher.

The itinerary looks like this:

May 27: Fly to Belize and then drive to PathLight’s mission and conference center for dinner …

Support A Teacher

It seems like everybody has a dollar a day program to help children. But what if I told you that a dollar a month could dramatically impact the future of a child? Would you think I’m crazy?

I think it’s true. I’ll explain.

One area of focus for PathLight, in addition to students, continues to be on programs that impact teachers. In the regions of Belize where PathLight works, teachers are woefully under paid, under trained, and under resourced. Fewer than 40% of the teachers in Belize have any training on how to be a teacher and that number …

Meet the New Belize Program Director!

As some of you are already aware, the PathLight Belize Program Director, Bryant Kong, had to return home at the end of 2011 due to a family emergency. I was sad to see him go. Please keep the Kongs in your prayers as they transition back home to Korea. If you’d like to read Bryant’s personal message to PathLight supporters, please click here.

PathLight’s Executive Director, Mark Parcher, went to Belize in mid-January with plans to begin a search for a new program director. Finding a director has been a challenge in the past, and based on those experiences, I …

Kids and Prayer

Next month I will be visiting London for a few days and connecting with friends at 24-7 Prayer. One of the programs that originated from 24-7 is Prayer Spaces in Schools. I posted their teaser video earlier but thought the full version is also worth posting (it’s below).

I am excited about the possibilities of these prayer spaces in schools. A child seems to have an intuitive understanding of prayer that adults lose. Perhaps this is because they are more vulnerable, more willing to rely on others, and more willing to accept the mystery of God. Whatever the …

Prayer Spaces in Schools

Last summer I had the opportunity to meet with leaders of Prayer Spaces in Schools. This is an exciting program that is expanding fast throughout the United Kingdom. It is now going global and I’d love to get them to Belize!

What I love about Prayer Spaces is the simplicity of the idea. Create a place in a school where kids can come to pray, offer creative ways for them to express their prayers, be open to everybody who visits, and then watch God do amazing things. The impact on kids has been tremendous.

I encourage you to check …

Belize Archaeology

This is a fun video about a new Mayan discovery in Belize. I’ll be heading to Belize in April and staying near this site; it would be fun to visit! Want to go with me?

By the way, the video is courtesy of PlusTV News, which is operated by Louis Wade. Louis oversees the PathLight disclipship programs in Belize.
