Wait, by Frank Partnoy

You know what originally drew me to the book Wait: The Art and Science of Delay by Frank Partnoy? The cover. Yes, I really am that shallow.

But as an owner of a Golden Retriever, how could I not be drawn to a photo of a Golden doing exactly what my beloved Sadie does when I put a treat on her nose and tell her to “wait”?

Shallowness aside, the book is well worth reading. Partnoy explores the idea that our best decisions are often made just a touch slower than we might think is best. We are a culture so caught up in speed that we don’t take the time to simply wait, to consider, to ponder, and then to decide with more information and less irrationality.

I enjoyed this book. Partnoy is a good storyteller and shares good insights derived from those stories. I didn’t agree with everything, but then I seldom do. It’s definitely worth reading.

Besides, it’s got a cool cover.
