The Third Conversion, by Scott Rodin

It’s only a matter of time before I meet Scott Rodin because we have dozens of friends in common. When we do, I look forward to having him sign my copy of The Third Conversion. It’s a simple, short book that shares unique insight into fundraising for your non-profit organization.

Written as story about a new development officer on his first day at work, the book outlines a philosophy of fundraising that is growing in popularity. Rather than looking at donors as potential marks, sizing them up by the number of zeroes on their checks, look at them as people with whom you share a spiritual journey with. Development officers can learn from their donors as well as teach their donors. Thus fundraising becomes a ministry to people, not a sales program.

It’s not a new concept — other books have preached this message before The Third Conversion was published. But this book condenses it into real life situations and conversations. And I know from my many mutual friends that Scott has been practicing this method of fundraising for many years. He brings experience and insight to the conversation.

A definite “must read” for anybody who has to raise funds for their organization.
