Charles Morris, a self described liberal, a lawyer, and a former banker, is the author of Comeback: America’s New Economic Boom. He argues in the book that America is about to have an incredible 20-year economic boom. His thoughts have special meaning because he was the first to accurately predict the banking collapse of 2008. I hope he’s right this time too, even though it’s hard for me to cheer on anybody who is both a banker and a lawyer!

Morris argues that the natural gas boom is going to reinvigorate the American economy on a level not seen since the 1950-60’s. He admits there are risks to his prediction and a boom is not a fait accompli. But all the elements of a boom are in place, and he’s optimistic.

Honestly, I’m not sure I’m buying it. I do believe America has a promising future — especially compared to others parts of the world. But I’m not sure “boom” is what I’d predict for the next 20 years. Hopefully I’m wrong.
